Chapter 28

"Look Itachi, we are surrounded by all these beautiful creatures...I thought we were alone for a while, but no, here we go again", Kisame said with a chuckle, doesn't even seem to be startled or afraid of this big number of monsters that appeared.
'It's all my fault...', you thought to yourself gulping and subconsciously clutching on Itachi's cloak, but then he started talking: "they don't move toward us, they don't look like they are going to attack us, they appeared...to let us be aware of their presence, as if they want to tell us there is no need for fight", he said still in that cool state of his, how can he keep this calm in the middle of this?

"You seem right Itachi, but we still need to be cautious, why do you think they chose to appeared now?", Kisame asked, Itachi looked at the wolf then at you and said: "the wolf ordered them with that howl when [name] healed it".
The wolf turned back to you, grabbing the hem of your kimono between its teeth and started pulling on it, as if asking you to follow it. You quickly let go of the cloak and looked at Itachi who nodded at you a yes, then taking your hand in his again and started walking through the thick forest, as the wolf walked ahead of you guiding the three of you, while the monsters just looked at you without a move.

The sound of crying was getting louder. It wasn't long before you spotted a wrapped figure on the ground a few distance away from you, the sound of crying was coming from the baby in it.
"Don't tell me we have to babysit this now", Kisame said in a bored and annoyed voice, as you watched the wolf sniffling the baby then looking back at you as if wanting you to come over. You walked there with Itachi of course, then lifted up the baby in your arms, from the blue clothes it was wearing you knew it was a boy, he calmed down and stopped crying immediately after you picked him up and smiled at him.
"What are we supposed to do with him?", Kisame asked, but before any of you could say something, the wolf started pulling on your clothes again, asking you to follow it again. You did so as the two guys accompanying you tagged along, the other noises that seemed like a woman's sobs seemed to calm down a bit after the baby stopped crying.

After a while of walking a long path thought the trees, you've reached a place where the sounds were coming from: an old fountain decorated with marble and ivory, that water was overflowing its edges then running into a nearby stream that goes deep into the forest.
You stood up a few distance away from it holding that mysterious baby, as the wolf walked to the fountain and howled like the first time, soon after that, the water started moving in a strange way.
"[name], get back!", you have been pulled back by Itachi, while Kisame kept observing the water moving with much attention and amusement.

The water started to rise up as if to form something, soon, a shape of a woman made of water appeared in the middle of the fountain.
She was transparent, still you can see how beautiful she would look if she was human...her crying had stopped completely, her face turned toward the wolf, then to the three of you.
"....my baby...my son...", she said in a very soft voice as you knew she was talking about the baby in your arms.
"I found him somewhere around here, the wolf guided us to him then to here...", you said, thinking of this weird situation, how could this baby be her child? And what's about the wolf?!
"The wolf? You mean kaito...my dear beloved husband...", she said as the wolf looked at her letting out a sad whimper.

"I and Kaito...came here...long time ago with our little baby...we wanted to cross this forest and get to the other side but someone had put a spell on us transforming my husband into the wolf you are seeing and imprisoning him, and turning me...into this shape...a woman made out of tears...now I can never leave this fountain", she said.
"Tears?!", you watched the water flowing in front of your eyes.
"We became...part of the monsters inhabiting this forest, we became their leaders...", she said as the wolf looked down at the ground sadly.
"Yet...our son has been left there alone in that same place you found it in, we weren't able to take care of him...he cried and starved alone...until he died...and we couldn't do anything about it because of our cursed bodies...", she added in a more sad tone.

"So...this baby I'm holding now is...a ghost of him?!", you said feeling startled but sad at the same time, looking down at the pale sleeping baby boy.
"Yes, but now we can finally rest since you have reunited us again", she said with a giggle at the end.
You were still stunned by this new whole thing, in fact you had started to get sick of this twisted forest adventure, you just wanna leave safely as soon as possible.

"Thank you...[name], for healing my  husband and I'm sorry for commanding our allies to attack you at first, we thought you were enemies...like most people who come here...", she said.
"No, we just wanna get past this forest, we don't intent to cause you any harm", you said looking at her.
"The exit of this forest is just behind this fountain...now can you please...give me my boy?", she said in a smooth voice, you nodded and walked a few steps close to her before being stopped by Itachi.

"If you want the boy, you come take him by yourself", he said as you just looked at him confused, then he continued: "what was the point of trying to pull [name] to the underground earlier? If you were thinking she was an enemy like you said before, you could have just killed her directly. What if you try to do the same thing again now and pull her into that water? Are you trying to steal her body so you can get back to normal or something?", you frowned hearing his words then looked at the woman's figure waiting for her reply.
"No...I didn't mean to do that, we were just defending ourselves that way...", she said simply.
"Then I will bring you your child, not [name]. If you want a body, take mine, if you can...", Itachi said taking the baby from you then walking towards the fountain, gently putting him in the water.

'Itachi...', you felt worried and afraid that something might happen to him, you watched him walk back then stand next to you again.
The baby boy soon faded away as the clothes he was wrapped in melted into that water, just then, a similar baby figure made out of 'water' appeared in the woman's arms. 

The baby was now moving in her arms lively as you could hear him giggle with his mother, she then looked at the three of you again then said:"thank you again for bringing us together...now we can finally rest...thank you...", that was all she said before she faded with her baby and the wolf as well, leaving you there watching with confusion. The 'normal' water was still flowing out of the fountain, looking around, all of the other monsters disappeared and hide again, the fog became less and less thick as a ray of sunlight made its way to the fountain making the water sparking.

Was it just a dream?

"Weird...", Kisame finally spoke, Itachi just took your hand in his as he started walking toward the exit of the forest along with you and Kisame.
