"Ease up, Hummel!" Madison laughed as she hoisted herself out of the water directly after Kailani, both finishing their morning laps seconds apart. "This is a practice, not a meet."
"Practicing like it's a meet, sets you up for a meet." Kailani replied, pulling off her swim cap and goggles and placing them down on the bench, picking up her towel a moment later and beginning to dry off.
"Doesn't mean you'll be any better." The blonde countered, arching a brow with a small smirk as she picked up her own towel and began to dry off, smiling when Coach Jase approached them.
"Well, well, well! Look who's eating their wheaties this year!" The man clapped Kailani on her back, flashing the time keeper in her view. "Way to hustle, Hummel. Nice work today."
"Thanks, Coach." She smiled at the man, glancing towards Madison when the older girl rolled her eyes in annoyance.
"Sophmores catching up to you, Mads. Looks like you've got some competition." Coach Jase said, unknowingly adding to the tension between the two girls as he walked away towards the other girls. "Nelson! What are you, eating rocks now? Come on, bud! This is swim not float!"
Madison took a sip of her water bottle, watching Kailani for a moment as she wrapped the towel around her body and turned to walk towards the locker rooms. "Hummel." She called, as Kailani turned towards her. "Don't be getting any ideas. You might be the youngest varsity member, but you're still at the bottom of the pool."
"I don't plan on staying there." Kailani said, shrugging. "I want to get better. Thats...That's why I'm here."
"You can. Just stay out of my way." Madison spat, taking a few steps towards the girl with a full fake smile on her face as to not alarm the other swim team members. "Because if you don't...I'll make sure everyone knows all about your little clothing swaps in the bathroom. I think we all already knew what team you played for...but does anyone really want a tranny in the locker rooms? No. You'd be exclude from everything in a heartbeat. Understand, Kai?"
"G-Got it. Yes. Understood." Kailani gulped, taking a small step backwards as Madison walked by her, shoulder checking her to the side and making her way towards the bathrooms.
The brunette sighed, holding her towel close to her body as the familiar insecurity senses rushed into her mind. Her eyes wander around, taking quick glances at the other girls as they passed before closing her eyes and exhaling slowly. She had made the mistake of leaving her extra pair of clothing in her swim locker instead of her actual locker last week and unfortunately gave the captains a view of her boxers and cheap chest binder she kept on hand when body dysphoria hit.
Not that she wanted to be a boy completely, Kailani just didn't feel completely right as only a girl or a boy, so she wore what she wanted during the school day to help herself feel more comfortable. Kurt understood somewhat. She talked to him about her worries and feelings and he expressed his concerns, but none of the less helped her in every way he could by slipping boxers her way under their father's nose and ordering binders under his name and sliding them into her dresser after researching what was best to help in these situations.
