"Number 47 said to number three. You're the cutest Jailbird I ever did see..."
Quinn giggled quietly as Kailani sang and danced with her in the home economics classroom. She spun under their arm when Kailani directed her to, ducking slightly since she was a few inches taller and laughing at her partner's excitement to help with the bake sale.
"Aw!" Kailani suddenly whined, watching an egg fall and splat onto the floor. "Meanie."
"Meanie?" Quinn teased, pulling Kailani closer and leaning their heads together. "You killed it."
"It rolled." Kailani shimmied their shoulder, laughing when Quinn giggled at how cute the blue-eyed swimmer was acting.
Kailani had been shaken up since Hunter roofied her at Breadstix, sticking very close to Quinn since the blonde explained what had happened. It was worrisome to Quinn when she noticed little moments of blank stares and increased irritation with Kailani's behavior, something she noticed around this time of year last time too. She only hoped that with Hunter being out of the picture and recovering from his head injury away from the pool, Kailani wouldn't be too affected by the change in events.
"Taste good," Quinn commented, swiping her finger across the bowl's side again and sticking it in her mouth.
Kailani's brows smushed together, rolling her eyes when Quinn smiled innocently.
"That's unsanitary."
"I'm tasting your famous Coke cake." Quinn laced their fingers together as Kailani stepped closer to lean into her body. "You're cute as a baker."
"You're cute too." Kailani blushed, leaning up and kissing Quinn's cheek. They swung their hands back and forth, looking over their girlfriend's eyes with a small smile. "My Mom taught me. It was one of her favorites when I was growing up. One of mine too."
"Well, I appreciate the master class, Angel." Quinn kissed their forehead in return. "How are you doing? I've been really busy this week, but I promise I'm here for you."
Kailani inhaled deeply, turning to continue baking as Quinn rested a hand on the small of their back. They focused on mixing the rest of the batter, pulling a cupcake tray closer for easy access.
"I'm fine." Kailani shrugged. "I've had a lot to process, and ..." They looked down at their bowl with a soft sigh, then turned and looked up at Quinn. "I have a hard time swimming."
"Swimming?" Quinn repeated, worry in her chest.
"Yeah. I...I feel like I'm losing my motivation to swim." Kailani admitted with a disappointed downward drag of their shoulders. "I'm stressed. It's burnout or something, I'm sure, but...but it's a little disappointing."
