"Kailani!"
Hearing the muffled sound of her name from under the water, Kailani Hummel pushed off the bottom of the rough pool tile floor and kicked her feet lightly as her body floated back to the surface of the deep end.
Kailani inhaled deeply the moment her face broke through the tight wall of water and was met with the echoing noises of the exhaust fans running loudly around the large indoor pool and the soft impatient tapping of her brother's foot against the poolside. She whisked her arms in front of her and crossed the lane till she had reached the wall in front of her older twin brother, looking up at him as she ripped off her goggles.
"I swear. One of these days you're going to drown. You're not a fish. Do you even remember to come up for air?" Kurt fussed, tone laced with worry as he looked over his sister's wet form clinging to the side of the school's pool, chest heaving up and down to intake the fresh oxygen around her.
"The water helps me think." Kailani's voice hit his ears with a hint of rasp, confirming his suspicions on how long she had actually been in the pool that morning.
"We've got thirty minutes till the bell. I'd get ready." Kurt recommended as he checked the time on his phone, bending down to offer her a hand. "Come on, Lani."
"Thanks, Kurtsy."
Taking her brother's hand and allowing the boy to pull her out of the water, Kailani rolled the swim cap off her head along with her goggles and left his side for a quick second to grab her towel off the stands nearby, rejoining him a moment later as she wrapped it around her red and black McKinley Guppy's Swimsuit.
"Puckerman get you?" Kailani asked, smiling sadly as she brushed off the boy's shoulder and pulled at the bottom of his royal blue fabric to rid a few standing wrinkles on his new Marc Jacobs jacket. "He got me on my way in this morning."
"One day those neanderthals will work for us, Lani. They don't understand that we are the inhabitants of true fashion. You, my model and exquisite column writer and me, the designer." Kurt stated, sharing a smile with his twin sister as they walked towards the locker rooms.
"A dream come true." Kailani breathed a true smile at the thought of living their dreams together. "You'll be on Broadway and I'll write my brutal crique for my very own magazine or blog or something. You can talk up my books at your interviews."
"And you can talk up your well dressed and all time favorite older brother in your autobiography." The boy grinned, doing a small skipped step on the tile to avoid a puddle of water. He chuckled as Kailani slushed her feet straight through it without worry, continuing to wring out her long wavy hair.
