The perfect happy life seemed like an illusion.
Looking at Quinn Fabray and everything she wanted to have with her was slowly slipping away as the weeks went by. The days, the minutes, every second she had to look in the mirror and see nothing but shattered glass staring back at her. No matter how much water she splashed on her face to feel something other than her toes stepping on her own egg shells.
"Look at this one, Angel." Quinn whispered, wrapping her arms around her partner, frowning a bit when she jumped in surprise our of her silent trance, but quickly rubbing her stomach to sooth her. Once Kailani had relaxed back into her arms, she reached up and tapped the glass lightly that opened to the show kennels of kittens for adoption at the local pet store and rested her chin on her shoulder. "What do you think?"
"Are you getting a cat?" Kailani asked, confused as to why Quinn had brought her out to an adoption event.
"No, but I like cats. Maybe one day we could get a cat and you could get a dog." Quinn replied, kissing her cheek. "What do you think, Sunshine? I'll let you teach my cat to walk on a leash and we can go for little adventures."
"Maybe."
Quinn held Kailani from behind, watching the cats move around in front of them aimlessly, a few checking them out in interest. She had hoped getting Kailani out of the house and around the animals would help her current depressive rut she seemed to be slipping into, especially considering the blonde was trying to prepare to show her how great the holidays could really be.
That was a little difficult after learning from Kurt that Elizabeth Hummel died the week before Christmas.
So, Quinn was on a search for anything to help make life a little better for her partner. Helping her with chores at home and making sure she was eating more than throwing it up when she felt 'sick' – Quinn was no idiot to that excuse – and often found herself sitting in the bathroom reading or on her phone as Kailani showered or helping her bathe to discourage the behavior. When they went out to eat, Quinn always seemed to have to go to the bathroom when Kailani had, keeping a close eye on her at school as well.
Quinn was genuinely trying to do anything she could to help Kailani feel like she wasn't alone.
Today was a Kai day. Quinn could feel it, sense it, see it. She had gotten pretty good at only having to double check with her bracelets every now and then, especially on days she could see Kailani trying to migrate further away from the female expression that she had been stuck in for a while, not that Quinn minded.
