"Hurry!" Juniper squealed excitedly when she noticed an older newport blue Outback roll over the speed bump into the student parking lot. "It's Mommy!"

"Slow down!" August groaned, running after Juniper as she raced to meet Kailani at their parking spot. "We can't just stay here and watch this weird movie play out. Those aren't are parents."

Juniper slowed down and turned around with a confused frown. She looked over her shoulder as Kailani parked and slipped out of the car with their backpack before returning their attention to August.

"Those are our parents." Juniper protested. "I can feel it. They love each other."

"Momma and Mommy didn't fall in love this way." August shook her head and looked around at the sky. "I'm not sure what's going on, but we have to assume it's...a hallucination or something."

"But we're here together?" Juniper frowned. "How would we be here together if it was a hallucination?"

"Give me some time to figure that out I barley passed health class." August insisted, allowing Juniper to lace their fingers together and tug her a few steps further toward their mother.

"Look." Juniper smiled at her sister and pointed toward the Cheerios.

Sitting over their bike was Quinn Forbes in a semi-focused conversation with the other portion of the Unholy Trinity, Santana Lopez and Brittany Pierce. Even in their supposedly amusing conversation, Quinn Forbes' eyes were shifting to buzz over Kailani Collins-Hummel as they moved through the parking lot.

And for a second, Kailani's blue eyes met green, and the wind blew through their purple hair.

Lilac whisked around until it stuck to their sunglasses. Little strands with baby curls. Sides were shaved into an undercut style to bring the purple contrast against the ashy brown of their natural coloring. She wasn't sure if the wind took her breath away or the sight of Kailani passing through her life as if the simple sight of their eyes didn't demolish the walls Quinn had worked to build.

Today, Kailani had more confidence. Tomorrow, they'd have a smile brighter than the sun. All because Quinn believed they were normal — perfect, beautiful, themself. The day after that, Kailani would cry in the bathroom because someone called them a dyke. They'd fall into Quinn's arms and break down for being everything they're not — disgusting, inhuman, a disappointment.

And the entire week after that, Quinn would be suspended for slashing Finn Hudson's tires for daring to laugh with his friends. It was no surprise Kailani didn't pity him with a second date. He was an asshole who didn't care about sticking up for anyone unless he gained something from it.
