A sigh escaped their lips as blue eyes fluttered closed for a split second. The words they had been reading for the last few hours disappeared from view, no longer able to focus with lips lightly dusting over their neck.
"Santana," Kailani whispered, opening their eyes and trying to focus on the book in front of them. "We have to figure this out. Stop fooling around."
"We've been trying for hours," Santana mumbled against Kailani's neck. Her free hand crept up their side and molded over the curve leading towards Kailani's chest, lips trailing up towards their ear. "I think we deserve a break."
"How did our kids know to come back in early 2010 when all the issues Riley and Brianna talked about began in 2011 to 12? How would they have known to come back that early? Was it a mistake? What were they trying to prevent?"
Santana rolled her eyes, laying down half on top of Kailani. She tilted her head just enough to look between the notebook Kailani was writing in and one of the many books they had been reading.
Ever since they popped up in this time period together, Santana and Kailani had been trying to figure out how to get home or solve at least some of their time travel issues. Still, unfortunately, their little miniature versions never relayed the secrets of time travel or communication across timelines to them.
"Brookie mentioned your journals." Santana shrugged, craving physical attention from Kailani to ease her own stress over their situation. She leaned down and kissed their exposed shoulder, trailing her hand over the small of their back. "Take a break, Kai."
"We...need to get back," Kailani mumbled, feeling Santana's hand moving south and palming her backside, curling with the shape of her ass to grope the flesh gently. "Santana, this is serious."
"How will we ever focus on getting back if you won't even take a break?" Santana asked, laying down on Kailani's side and popping her head up on her elbow. She twirled their hair around her finger and smirked. "We are technically dating here, so I'm supposed to encourage you to take a break from this stress. Another thing the doctor told you. Stress and you do not mix."
"Don't remind me." Kailani chuckled, turning their head to meet Santana's eyes with a small smile. "I used to have flashes of us dating."
"Really?" Santana tilted her head and smiled softly when Kailani embarrassingly nodded their head. "Were we happy?"
Kailani hummed quietly, giving them a second to finish writing their train of thought from reading the previous paragraph on wormholes and time travel estimations for the future. They looked back to Santana a moment later and bit their lip, nodding.
