Turning the corner, Kailani jumped in surprise as a large hand slipped into hers and laced their finger's together. She turned her head and looked at the taller boy in surprise, rolling her eyes when she spotted the school's new arrival – and new member of her household – Sam Evans.
"What are you doing?" Kailani asked, lips tugging upward as the boy grinned down at her.
"Holding your hand, Limes." Sam winked, as Kailani slowly took her hand from the boy and playfully glared at him
"Sam, you've been back a day and you're already stirring trouble."
"I heard about you and Quinn." Sam interrupted, as Kailani sighed, looking down and clutching her books to her chest. "Finn told me you know..."
"Of course."
"...about what happened."
"Then he probably should have told you she's not anywhere close enough to holding in her urge to murder you." Kailani replied, sending the boy a quick look, and chuckled when Sam shrugged.
"I can take her."
"Part of me doubts that."
"What about the other part?"
"The other thinks you're both idiots for valuing violence as comminucation and I cannot believe I'm attracted to either of you."
"So you are attracted to me!"
"I'm also attracted to Kovu from Lion King, so I wouldn't take my opinion to heart. I'm mentally unstable."
"Come on, Limes." Sam pulled the girl to a stop, rubbing both sides of her arms as he stood in front of her with a kind smile. "We had something. You can't deny our chemistry. I would treat you better. Trust me."
"Sam, I...I love Quinn." Kailani admitted, looking down at her shoes. "I can't do that to her. You are the last person she needs to see me with."
"So, you can't date or talk with anyone, but she can have sex with Puck?" Sam asked, as Kailani pressed her lips together and looked away from the boy. "Let me prove myself. Give me a chance."
"Heard that before."
"Seriously!" Sam smiled, reaching over and brushing Kailani's curls out of her face, as the girl looked up. "We had something. Look me in the eyes and tell me you didn't feel anything."
"I felt a whole lot more for Quinn, okay? I love Quinn and-and we're working through some issues." Kailani said, as the boy grinned, pleased with something to work with. "But-But that doesn't mean anything. We're better friends, Sam. We-We read Star Wars fanfiction together and that would be a little weird if we were a couple."
