"You're staring."

"I apologize. It's a strange thing to process." Elizabeth chuckled, sitting down beside Quinn and looking over the backyard of her best friend's home.

"Oh, I know." Quinn sighed, looking down at the cup of tea Kurt had made with Camren that morning. "Wish I would have known from the start."

"You'll marry her in the future? My daughter?" Elizabeth asked, turning a bit to face the blonde. She smiled a bit when the woman nodded. "Do I...Was I there? Do we get along well? Me and her?"

"I don't think I should answer that." Quinn sighed, a tight smile on her lips.

Elizabeth chuckled, sipping her coffee and nodding somberly.

"You just did. Never underestimate the way someone's soul shows through their eyes, Lucy." She hummed, a sad look passing through her blue eyes when she noticed the same sadness in Quinn's green eyes. "I always wanted a girl to talk to. Twins are better. Bondable. I...Part of me is glad she's gay. Men don't sound that improved from what we deal with now. Hopefully, their father isn't dank about it. All men seem to be. Wish I ended up a lesbian, but whatever works, I guess."

"She's..." Quinn bit her lip, pausing for enough time to grab Elizabeth's complete attention. "Kailani's special. She's not a label of anything. She...She loves everything more than I ever could understand, and she loves it hard. I've never met someone like my wife...It's beautiful and terrifying all at once. Sometimes, I feel so over my head, but it's exactly what I needed...Now, I...I just have to learn how to better understand. I was selfish. I won't be anymore; I can't be."

"Mhm." The teenager hummed, unsure how to take Quinn's words as she sorted through them.

"Lani always looked up to you from the first day I met her. You were a great mother, so don't doubt yourself."

"Yeah?" Elizabeth's lips twitched upward, biting her lip and looking down at her mug. "But you never met me, huh? You haven't spoken about me in the present tense unless it's about me here."

"I..." Quinn looked away, shaking her head with a short laugh. "You analyze like Kailani did. I couldn't get a word out without them overthinking everything."

"It's genetic. If you don't know that, you obviously haven't met my mother. She's the biggest overthinker I know." Elizabeth teased, nudging Quinn's arm with her elbow.

"Wait till you mean your child. Kailani is...a new breed over overthinker." Quinn smiled awkwardly after a moment, shrugging. "Your mother didn't want to meet me, but I had had my run-ins when Kailani attempted to introduce us."
