The sound of a ticking clock echoed in Quinn's ears as she walked down a cement path towards a playground surrounded by clouds. She smiled as the sound of kids squealing and laughing grew louder as she stepped off the path and let the mulch crunch under her feet.
Little kids were running around the playground. A few were swinging on the swings together, sliding down the slides, and running across the suspension bridge. As Quinn walked closer towards the playground's raised castle area, she caught sight of blue and white flashes from a child's sneakers running by until they skidded to a halt.
"Lucy!" Little Kailani peaked over the railing and grinned down at Quinn, who looked up and matched her wide smile when she noticed the girl's bright eyes. "You came back! You came back!"
"Yeah? I...I guess I did. I don't know how, but I did." Quinn chuckled, watching Kailani rush over the bridge and slide down the large blue slide.
Quinn smiled as the little girl ran across the mulch and threw her arms around her waist, looking up at her with a wide smile. She bent down and hugged Kailani tightly, pulling back to check the seven year old's face, sighing in relief when she didn't see any stitches like she had last time they had met.
Her eyes continued examining the seven year old with a soft smile. There was no doubt in her mind that this was a tiny Kailani figment of her imagination, or something along those lines because nothing explained why she was constantly being visited by the same little kid she saw at camp so many years ago.
Quinn knew this was a dream. That didn't take a genius to figure out.
But then again, here Little Kailani was in the cutest blue Power Ranger costume, braided pigtails, gemmed blue and silver butterfly clip in her hair, and light up Power Ranger sneakers. She had so many adorable freckles across her face, a smile as bright as the sun that was perfectly placed above them, and as sad as it seemed, Quinn hadn't seen Kailani so carefree ever in her life.
It was a breath of fresh air, but Quinn was having a hard time understanding one thing.
Why did this keep happening?
"Come here, cutie."
"Wait! You wanna to meet my friend?" Kailani asked, giggling and wrapping her arms around Quinn's neck as the blonde picked her up off the floor and placed the small child on her hip. "Please? Please?"
"Sure." Quinn nodded, looking around. "Is it Kurt? Where is he? I wanna see his baby-baby face."
"Not Kurt, Silly!" Kailani kicked her feet lightly, taking Quinn's hand the second she was placed back on the floor and pulling her towards another part of the playground. "Come on! Come on!"
