While Holden and Hunter were preparing to fall into Vaughn's favorite little prankster's favorite pastime, Vaughn was tied to a chair a few feet from where Juniper and August were strapped to the table.

"Why are you doing this?" Vaughn asked Daniel as the man continued to monitor Juniper and August's vitals. "If you're all about keeping your fancy rules. Why are you willing to kill them?"

"I never said I was willing to kill anyone." Daniel carefully held Juniper's face as she stared up at the ceiling with wide silver eyes, her body tense or shaking since she faded out. "I'm monitoring what's happening to them."

"Why isn't it happening to me?" Vaughn asked, smiling innocently when Daniel narrowed his eyes. "What? A girl can't be interested?"

"I find your interest to be mislead." Daniel chuckled and returned to his examination. He glanced back at Vaughn a few times as he flashed a light in Juniper's eyes. "Do you really want to know what's going on?"

"Duh." Vaughn rolled her eyes.

"I'm a time officer from the future. A hired help to keep the less responsible people like your family from screwing up the future." Daniel explained, moving to his computer. "It's my job to keep kids like you alive. Sadly, there's lots of you where I'm from due to the imbalance created by the Ryans and the Dawns conflict."

"Why not kill them both?" Vaughn asked.

"We could." Daniel nodded. "But it might hurt the future that we know."

"Is it possible for the future to be hurt more than we've already hurt it?" Vaughn tilted her head. "You're an officer. You have the ability to help."

"I'm a neutral help. I don't pick sides."

"Killing both isn't a side. Kailani and Bryan could both die well before—" Vaughn closed her mouth when Daniel turned to face her suspiciously. "I...Holden told me a lot at lunch."

"Before you tried to escape?" He asked.

"Wouldn't you try if they just sat there talking about this amazing future they're trying to make?" Vaughn held back her smirk when Daniel looked away from her. "It can't be that great of a future. A future run by loose morals and...and broken children running the streets. Brain washing us and turning us against our mother is not going to solve anything."

"I wish I could help you, Vaughn." Daniel rolled a device over August's forehead and sighed. "But what your asking is close to impossible."

"Nothing's impossible." Vaughn nodded to her sisters. "An assassination is easier than one...two...three."
