An array of emotions filtered through Quinn's eyes as she stepped into Kailani's office and let her eyes wander to every book and picture, drink in hand.

Quinn felt like she was experiencing all five stages of grief at once every time she entered the room, allowing herself to feel the pain that filled her heart every moment her partner wasn't sitting in that chair ready to offer her a smile when she knocked before entering. That knock hadn't changed even after Kailani's smile disappeared.

It had been months, almost an entire year, since she had seen her kids. It had been longer since she had seen her wife outside of that soul-surfing design Blaze was trying to strengthen with Kailani's old notes. She wished she had known they were a genius back when they were just idiot teenagers -- more so herself than Kailani. She would have listened to her rants more productively and taken every word Kailani said into her mind to analyze further.

Quinn crossed the room and picked up a picture on the bookshelf. She swallowed uncomfortably and traced the crack in the glass from when it had fallen with the bookshelf multiple years ago. Her eyes looked over the picture she had taken of Kailani in front of their run-down home before their tedious renovations, mind wandering.

"Quinn." A golden-brown-haired Kailani sighed softly as they looked over the wood-covered windows and spray-painted brick walls. "I think it's beautiful, love, but we can't afford to fix this right now."

"But we will," Quinn reassured her partner, taking Kailani's mittened hands and pulling them closer to the large building. "You're going to take off with your career and change the world. I have that job at the college, and-"

"Moons," Kailani whispered, observing Quinn's face. They were so focused on her lover's behavior that they missed how a silver splash of color passed their sights and shot toward the building. "We need to think rationally. You have done so much for me these past few months, but I can't ask you to do this. A house and these doctor appointments for the girls are going to be too much-"

"Our family." Quinn -- brunette and more optimistic than her fiance was used to -- interrupted Kailani once again. "Our family could grow here. Be happy here. Whatever you want, Kailey, baby. It's yours."
