The playground looked brighter in this dream. Quinn was sure of it.

Even though she had traveled back in time and taken her past self's place, Quinn Fabray knew the playground in her dreams looked brighter today. She could see the sun poking through the clouds and even feel the gentle breeze gathering around her as she stepped onto the reddish mulch.

"Lani? Kailani!" Quinn called, crossing her fingers that a little child was running somewhere. She looked around and frowned when there was no sight of the little blue bows and braided pigtails. "It's Lucy!"

"Lucy, huh?"

Hearing a familiar voice behind her, Quinn spun around and gasped in surprise when she spotted Kailani standing a few feet away with the same gentle smile she was falling in love with all over again. Her eyes searched over the teenager in front of her, deeming they looked paler than most times she had seen them. She frowned, noting how Kailani looked younger, and their hair was now a pretty golden-brown color she hadn't seen before.

"Kailani?" Quinn asked, slowly stepping forward. She gulped when she noticed the sparkles forming into a halo above her partner's head. "You're..."

"Shh." Kailani closed the distance and grinned as they held Quinn's face between their hands, sighing with teary eyes. "Don't worry. You always worry too much. Start learning now not to. You stress yourself out for no reason."

"Hard not to when you're dead in every version of this happy future I dream up," Quinn confessed, leaning into Kailani's touch. She pulled them closer by their hips and looked over their face. "How...old are you? You don't look... something's different."

At that, Kailani's smiled sadly.

"You look so beautiful, Quinn," Kailani whispered, swallowing the hard lump in their throat as they pulled her head down to rest their foreheads together. "You have given me so much. Life. A family. Freedom. I cannot thank you enough, Moons."

"Kailani..." Quinn frowned, not understanding why Kailani's cheeks were rolling with tears, and pain twinkled in their eyes. "Baby, what's going on?"

"You are the greatest thing to ever happen to me. Don't ever forget you're more than you think. You're so, so much more." Kailani continued, tears falling. "I don't want you to keep hurting yourself trying to fix what I did with Hunter. Doing this over and over till you get it right. It's not worth it, Quinnie...It's just not."

There was a moment of silence between them. A brief pause of horror crossed Quinn's face as she looked over Kailani, really looked over Kailani. She knew something wasn't right. Quinn could feel it. She could see how different the Kailani in front of her looked, and there was no way Quinn would accept that.
