The next morning, I turn over and find Jessie missing. I sit up and the blood rushes to my head.
"Fuck." I whisper.
"Maddie you up?" I hear her from the bathroom.
"Ya."
She walks out in a towel and I immediately wake up.
"Good Morning Maddie." she chuckles.
"Morning. What time is it?" I squint my eyes.
"Around 10:30."
"Thanks."
I get up and head to the bathroom. Without lookin in the mirror, avoiding my bruised self, I brush my teeth and wash my face.
"Maddie let me check your cheek."
"No it's fucked up."
"C'mon you're still pretty, let me see."
I close the bathroom door and let the water run as I check it myself. It's bad but at least the swelling went down a bit.
"Maddie open up."
"No thanks."
"Nathan is calling!"
I nearly break the door running for the phone.
"Just...kidding!"
"You fuckin bitch."
She laughs and tilts my head. She tries to touch it but I flinch and back away.
"It's not that bad."
"You don't gotta lie, I know it's bad."
"Let's get breakfast." she changes the subject.
We walk downstairs and I see my dad sittin at the dining table.
"Madison what the hell happened?!" He rushes over to me with a worry in his eyes.
"Nothin just got in a gang fight. The usual."
Jessie and I laugh. I know if I tell my dad my mom did this, he'd be taking her to court. At this point, I don't want anymore drama.
"What happened then?" He asks.
"I was sleeping, and you know when you get that falling sensation? I hit my face with the edge of one of my dressers and it marked up pretty bad." I lie.
"Oh okay. Just be careful jeez almost had a heart attack." He says as he walks back to his seat.
Gladly he believed it. If it were Nathan, he definitely knows when I'm lying so I'm just relieved my dad didn't question any further.
My stomach grumbles loudly and they both seem to hear it. I remember the promise I made Nathan, which was to eat breakfast every morning. He also promised to then take his insulin the right amount of times each day. Honestly, I've been slacking lately. And I don't need him to ever start doing that as well. So I decided to make use and take my ass to the kitchen.
"Maddie what you up to?" Asks Jessie.
"Cooking breakfast. You hungry?"
"Oh my god. You're cooking. Maddie will you marry me."
I laugh as I wash my hands.
"I think she has someone else in mind." chuckles my father.
Their voices lower and I go into my own world making what I've been craving for weeks now.
"Madison wants to go to Ireland."
"I know, she spoke to me about it. But her mother's the problem."
