"Miss Barnes, so good to see you" Lisa smiles
"So sorry I'm late. Alarm didn't ring today, late night" I explain, "I've got a package being dropped off today"
"Your meetings got moved to other days"
"Oh lovely, gives me a chance to catch up on everything else"
"Files are on your desk ready"
"Thank you"
The package arrives and the stuff is pure. It is glorious. A small amount will get me through the day, at least until I get home.
"Miss Barnes, visitor for you" Lisa mentions on the intercom
"No worries, send them in" I answer, not looking up from a file.
Adam enters, anger flowing in every footstep, slamming the door behind him. "You slept with Jay" he growls, fists tight
"Why do you care, Adam?" I ask, placing the file on my desk
"You slept with Jay" he repeats, moving closer to my desk
"And?"
His hands slam hard on my desk, making my pen cup and picture frame fall. "You slept with Jay" he yells, face red
"You don't control me" I yell back, my face close to his
"My best friend" he yells
"Might make me happy" I scream at him
He collapses into the chair, as do I. "I just don't believe it" he sighs
"I know"
"Does he?"
"Maybe"
"I'll kick his ass if he doesn't"
"You'll always be my number one"
"You too"
"How's the dating scene going for you?"
"Not great"
"I'm sorry. You know I wasn't planning this"
"I figured that"
"If you're completely against it, I won't go forward with it"
"Really?"
I shrug at him.
"I want you to be happy, if he makes you happy, I'm fine with it"
"Thank you"
He sits in silence for a moment before a cold shiver comes over him.
"Try not to picture it" I laugh, "I'll be able to set you up with someone once the Florida office opens"
"Please don't. I can't think of anything worse than my ex setting me up, let alone my ex dating my best friend"
"I was joking. I would set you up with the worst people out of jealousy"
He laughs. "Are you going to move to Florida, then?"
"No, I'm going to be running this place. My boss is moving down there"
"Even though?"
"Yes, even if I do date Jay. I'm here"
"How would you set me up then?" he jokes
"I would have access to their files" I smugly say
"Is there something else keeping you here?"
"No, not really. I've made one friend here, they know me at the local"
