Rot In Hell

"What do we do now?" Adam asked a few moments later as we stood at the carcass

"Dump him in the woods" I shrug, relief filling my insides

"How?" Adam asks, frowning

Kim's phone rings, Julie's model thin arm across Kim's stomach, as Kim stirs awake from the ringing noise.

"What time do you call this?" she mumbles, seeing my name shine on her screen

"Too early, I know. Need your help" I reply, rubbing my forehead as pain starts in my head

"Can it wait?" she groans, slowly sitting up so not to wake her sleeping girlfriend

"Not this one"

"I'll be there soon"

"Thanks, and bring the ute" I finish before hanging up, mainly to avoid her questions

Adam sits at the porch as Kim pulls up near the gate.

"What you need?" Kim asks, putting the window down

"Body removal, dead" I reply, crossing my arms across my torso

"Dead?" Kim says, turning the loud engine off and gets out the car

I simply nod. She hasn't seen the blood soaked scene yet.

"Not Adam, right?" she laughs, slamming the door

"Of course not. But was a partner, I guess" I say, leading her slowly to the scene

"Holy shit!" she screams, gasping

There lies the shell that was Davey Smith.

"Where'd he come from?" she asks

"The bigger question is where to"

"I don't know, Zoe. This is a big deal"

"I was thinking forest, let the wolves eat him"

"Zoe, seriously. Where did he come from?"

"My guess is Oz. Look, he's dead now, I just need help on getting rid of him, for good" I groan, kicking his knife away from the scene

"I honestly can't believe this" Kim grumbles, staring at Davey's lifeless face

"I'm still hoping this is a nightmare" I reply

She slaps my arm, hard, with the back of her hand. "There, you're awake"

"Thanks. Look, can we just get rid of him? He's starting to smell worse than he used to"

"Fine, let's get him into the tray, and we'll dump him somewhere" Kim agrees

Pulling the body out of the blood puddle, we grab him by the limbs, before throwing – literally – into the tray of the ute. Adam stands at the porch, watching before making his way back towards the gate.

"You done this before?" Adam asks us as Kim pulls a tarp over the bloody bones and skin.

"Not with a dead body, no" I say, taking a deep breath. "Can you find some towels or something, and start soaking the puddle up?"

"You don't want a hand with the body?" Adam asks

"No, we should be good. As long as it's still dark and don't get caught" Kim sighs

"I'll be back soon" I smile up at him, giving him a quick kiss on his cheek.

"I still can't believe that's him" Kim says with an unintentional laugh

"Well, it is. It was"

"You finally ended it"

"I didn't" I sigh.

No, we didn't have the guts to take him out. I made sure of that.

"What do you mean? He's dead. At your gate" Kim asks, frowning over at me quickly

"I didn't pull the trigger. Adam did" I answer

"What?"

"Adam killed him. I don't know what happened"

"Maybe he was just trying to protect you" Kim shrugs

"It should've been me, but I hesitated"

"You couldn't do it?"

"Nope"

The forest was dark even as the sun started to rise in the distance, a wolf howled in the distance as we pulled up to a cliff.

"This is the spot" I say, urging Kim to turn the car's ignition off

"Are you sure?"

"We'll throw him over the cliff, it'll look like a fall. Wolves and vultures will finish off the body" I continue, stepping out the car

"What about our foot prints?" Kim asks, stepping out the vehicle

"We have a storm coming, the rain, wind & snow will sort out any of that"

"If you're sure"

"I'll take all the blame if anyone investigates" I mumble, reaching for the lifeless body that was Davey Smith in the back of the ute

"How about the finger prints?" Kim questions, doubt filling her insides about this plan.

"Put some gloves on" I shrug in reply, pulling Davey out of the tray by his legs.

"And you?" she asked, reaching into the glove box for her pair of woollen gloves.

"I don't want to think about it" I mumble, looking down at my fingertips. There was still scarring from the car lighters and knife cuts from the years of serving this corpse. It was abuse and torture at its finest.

"Oh right, yeah. Forgot" Kim says with a sad smile, grabbing at Davey's shoulders.

We dragged the deadweight from the ute tray, carrying him towards the cliff ledge. Then we dropped him more than 1,000 feet below. Dust rose from the depths as his body crashed against the sandy floor.

"Any final remarks?" Kim asks as we stand near the edge

"Rot in hell, asshole" I spit before turning on my heel, striding back to the car

Adam stood, watching the ute pull up to the house, with a coffee in his hand. Most of the blood at the gate had been cleaned away.

"I've got to go home" Kim says as we pull up to the front.

"Take one of my cars, I'll sort out the mess in the tray" I say, smiling at Adam through the windshield.

"You sure?"

"Yeah, I'll bring it back once it's clean" I nod, as she stops and turns the key.

She takes the Dodge Charger, leaving the ute parked at the side of the house.

"I can't believe you actually did that" I say with a laugh as Adam hands me a hot cup of tea.

"I promised to protect you" Adam smiles. "So where did you dump him?"

"Over a cliff" I answer, watching the steam from the cup rise.

"How kind" he laughs.

"Kinder than he deserves. I still can't believe you actually did that, though"

"Believe it. Now we can all move on from that" he smiles, sighing.
