We debuted The One That Got Away a couple weeks before Valentines Day. The pub was packed of couples on first dates and the regulars. I glance over at Joe during the song. I was sure at that point I would be spending the rest of my life with him, even if partners changed. Adam smiled from the bar, mumbling along to a few songs, cheering us on.

"So, who's the one that got away?" Adam asked following the set, as Joe & I packed up that late evening.

I smiled up at him, my lips sealed.

"I'm pretty sure everyone has someone that it would apply to" Joe interjects, rolling the amplifier cord into a tight knot.

"And maybe, the one that got away is multiple people, or even the concept of someone" I add, "we are nearly done here" I smiled, unhooking the strap from the guitar.

"It's Joe, isn't it?" Adam asks on the drive home.

"It's no one, babe. I told you, you are the only one" I reply, waiting for the green light at the traffic stop.

"You would tell me, though. Right?"

"Of course. I don't think of Joe like that"

"And it's not Jay, either?"

"No, god no. I told Dee, he's all hers"

"It just seems like a personal song"

"Joe is special, and he always will be. He's family. There is no one that's gotten away"

"Speaking of family, they've finally booked the Australia shows" Adam mentions, looking out the window on the frost covered grasslands.

"When?" I ask, frowning over at him quickly.

"August. Just the one show at the moment"

"Should be nice weather, end of winter"

"Are you up for the trip?" Adam asks, turning in his seat slightly to look at me, watching for my reaction.

"Should be" I answer, shrugging as I turn onto our street, "what city is it in?"

"Melbourne"

"Let me know the dates so I can block it out" I say a few moments later, parking the car at the top of the driveway.

"So, how's the new year treating you?" Dr Weasley asked as I sat down.

"Fine" I say, lying.

"We don't use that word"

"It's been terrible, to be completely honest"

"What's happened?" she asks, her thin eyebrows creasing into a frown

My love is dead. Over a cliff. How could you let Adam do that?

"I had a visit from the devil, was arrested, and Adam is heading to Australia later in the year. I don't know if I can go with him" I ramble

"Will it be a family visit?"

"No." I say, sternly

"So why do you think you can't go?" she asks

"He will try to make it a family thing. I'm just wishing to keep the past in the past. Considering none of them wanted to fly over for the wedding, nor when my grandad died in the UK just before Christmas, why would I want anything to do with them?"

"I'm sorry to hear about your loss. Were you close with your grandfather?"

"He was my favourite person. I saw the other side of my family on the trip to say bye to him"
