The moment Melissa saw the light in Dan's eyes fade she broke down. Another one of her loves was taken from her. And she witnessed it. She has accepted it but wants to deny it.She ran over to Dan and shakes him.
"Please, Dan. Wake up. Please. Not like this. I can't lose you, too. Please you promised to survive. Please don't lie to me," Melissa pleads.
She kisses his blue lips. No reaction. She hugs his cold body. Nothing. She just continues to cry into his neck.
"Please. Stay with me. I love you. Don't break my heart like this," Melissa begs.
Melissa begins to think of the time she spent with Dan.
*Four weeks earlier*
Melissa was in her room working on the Full Gauntlet when her father walked in.
"Hey honey," David calls out.
"Papa," Melisa calls out and hugs her father.
It had been a week since she had seen him. He had been upset about a project but he never told her why.
"Hey Melissa can you do me a favor," David asks his daughter.
Melissa looks at her father with a tilt of her head.
"Favor?"
"Yeah, somehow Samuel managed to convince the board to let in a transfer student for a few weeks," David informs her, "He says it's a favor to a college classmate of his."
"And you want me to give this transfer student a tour?"
"More or less."
"But why me and not Austin? He likes to interact with new people," Melissa questions.
"Well, he is a special case."
"Special how?"
"He is quirkless," David replies.
"Wait he is quirkless. Just like me?"
"Yeah."
"Really. I want to meet him. I've never met another quirkless person," Melissa says with a smile.
"I thought you might. Samuel was told that the boy is smart, focuses more on software than hardware but can design devices if needed."
"Wow he seems smart," Melissa remarks.
"So will you escort the boy?"
"When will he be here?" Melissa asks.
"In one hour," David informs his daughter.
Melissa gives a smirk.
One hour later
Melissa was using a hi-tech pogo stick to reach the airport.
"I'm late," Melissa cries out.
She just had to adjust her full gauntlet a bit more.
Once she got close she put away her pogo stick.
Melissa looked around to see who she was looking for. She kept looking till she saw a sign that read "Transfer Student Here".
"There is no way," Melissa says but heads there anyways.
Once Melissa reached the person next to the sign, she was surprised. The boy was sitting on a bench, arms on the back of the bench, eyes closed, headphones on, and a lit cigarette in his mouth. He held a smaller sign that read "Here."
She motions to cover her nose not wanting to smell his secondhand smoke but the moment the scent hits her, she stops. The smoke emanating from his cigarette was calming. It smelled of lavender, blueberries, and a bit of a spice rack, as it had traces of sage, thyme, chamomile, and a few others.
