I thought things were going well with Kenny but I think I hit a wall. He will be flirty with me but I don't think he is serious. He never asks me to hang out or anything like that. I don't know how to get him to like me more. I also don't think it should matter. Is this enough? At least he hasn't focused on Nicole anymore. As long as Cartman doesn't tell me to do more I think I'll keep things as they are. There's no need to try and get into a real relationship with someone I don't have a thing for.

Every day at lunch, we will say a couple of flirty remarks to each other but that's about it, the rest of the day is spent as acquaintances.

Karen and I discussed our weekend plans a bit every day, she said I could come over on Saturday around noon and we could paint each other's nails and talk about whatever. I've never hung out with a girl before so im a bit nervous.

I knock on the door of the address she gave me. Almost immediately she opens it up with a big smile.

"Marjorine! Hello!"

"Hey, Karen."

She welcomes me in. There's a boy sitting on the couch watching TV. He waves at me.

"That's my oldest brother. The one who is in college. My other brother is out with his friends right now but he should be back later if you want to meet him. He is really nice."

We go to her room, she has set out a makeshift spa set. She's got small towels, bowls of water, and nail polish. I sit down in front of one of the bowls.

"Marjorine? What color do you want? I'm gonna do pink since it's my favorite color."

"Hmm... How about green? It'll match my hair ribbons."

"Good idea! Hold out your hands, I'll do you first."

She pokes out her tongue as she works on my nails, she's super focused.

"So, Karen. What do you usually do on weekends?"

"I hang out with my brothers. We are siblings but also best friends. We look out for each other since our parents are never around."

"Are they out of town or something?"

"No, they have daily rehab meetings, then after rehab, they go bar hopping."

"That seems ineffective."

"It is. They're idiots."

She really doesn't seem to like her parents very much. I don't have the best relationship with mine but at least I can rely on them to take care of me.

"My older brother takes care of most of the cooking for the three of us. The one you saw on the couch is usually busy with school."

"Your brother seems really nice. You said he goes to our school?"

"Yeah, but since you're new you probably don't know him, he doesn't make friends very fast so even if you have seen him he probably hasn't tried to talk to you or anything."

"I'd love to meet him."

"He should be home before you leave. He has to come home to make dinner after all..."

"I can cook too, you know... If your brother needs a day with his friends I can cook something."
