"Hold my hand?"

"Yeah, isn't that what couples do when things get hard."

I rub the bridge of my nose. "We aren't dating..."

"Why not? You like him, don't you?"

"..."

She smirks at me "I knew it."

"Just because I like him doesn't mean he likes me. Holding hands is a bit much. I think that as long as he is there with me I should be fine."

"Do you want me to find out if he likes you? He tells me everything, he would probably tell me if I asked."

"No. Even if he did like me I wouldn't want to date him."

"Why not?"

"Eventually people will find out that I'm trans. When they do they will probably make fun of me, and if Kenny is dating me, they would make fun of him too."

"He doesn't care about that stuff."

"But I do. I would feel bad if he lost friends because of me..."

"Okay. Whatever makes you feel better and safer. I'll leave it alone."

"Thanks."

"Okay, but I won't leave it COMPLETLY alone... I won't interfere but..."

"What?"

"I'm curious, what do you like about my brother?"

"He saved me today. And he reassured me about my identity. He looked at me after knowing the truth the same way he looked at me before. He sees me, not my gender. Plus he's funny and cute... I really want to play with his hair... It looks so fluffy..."

"Ew, you really do like him..."

"Yeah..."

"Speak of the devil."

"What?"

"Kenny, he's coming over, he got the truck."

Kenny gets out of his car and walks over to us.

"Are you ready Karen?"

"Yep!"

"You can get in the car. I'm gonna talk to Mar for a second."

She looks back and forth between the both of us. "Understood!"

She leaves and Kenny sighs.

"Are you feeling better, Mar?" He puts his hand on my cheek and looks into my eyes.

My heart flutters.

"Yeah... I am..."

"Good. Take this. I'll see you around."

He hands me a slip of paper and walks away.

It's his phone number...

-

I stare at my phone while I lay in bed. Do I text him? What would I even text him about? Will he be upset if I don text him? I really don't know what to do...

Mar: Hey Kenny, it's Marjorine.

Kenny: Hey, how's it going?

Mar: Good.

Kenny: Cool

I facepalm, that was sooo smooth... glad I just had that riveting conversation.

-

The next day at school I linger infront of the classroom. I really don't want to see the teacher again...

"You want me to go in with you?"

I jump, it's Kenny, he startled me.

"Oh, could you? I'm a bit nervous..."

"Of course." He holds out his hand.

It's just like Karen said... we will be holding hands as we face the teacher... it actually sounds comforting.

I slowly take his hand and he smiles.

He has cute little dimples.

"Let's go."
