Bunny - Kenjorine - Transition

Book 2 Chapter 17

"Mar... you're shaking." Kenny puts his palm on the back of my wrist to steady it.

"Sorry, I'm not cold, just..."

"Nervous?"

"Yeah..."

Kenny brings my hand to his chest and presses into it. "Me too."

I can feel his heart racing. Why is this so nerve wracking? And why does being touched by him make me feel so emotional?

"Just try to relax, I'm sure it'll go away once we settle down and get comfortable." Kenny does his best to reassure me.

I try to breathe as steadily as possible to not seem as nervous as I was feeling.

Kenny had to have noticed how off my breathing is, but he isn't saying anything about it. He always did know when to just let me manage my own thoughts. I loved that about him.

"You know... Bradley calls me Marj, I don't mind people calling me that. But, you're the only one I will ever let call me 'Mar'. It's... special."

Kenny slowly exhales as if he's trying to concentrate on something extremely difficult. "Thank you." He whispers just as slow.

I nuzzle my head back and into his shoulder before closing my eyes. He adjusts and rests his head on mine. It's so comfortable, and so warm... I haven't felt this relaxed in... so... long....

"Hello? Marj? Are you up here? Marj? Kelly?"

I wake up to the sound of Bradley's voice echoing down the hall. I sit up and rub my eyes. The power is still out but the sun is shining brightly through the windows.

I turn to Kenny to see him sitting in the same position as last night, fast asleep. He's always been a heavy sleeper.

I go out into the hall and immediately see Bradley.

"Marj! Are you doing oka-"

I put a finger to my lips. "Shh."

He looks confused so I approach and whisper to him: "he's still asleep."

He tilts his head. "Kelly?"

"It's Kenny. And yes, so just be quiet and let him rest a bit more."

"Okay, I'm glad you're both okay. I got the school to plow the roads here early so you should be good to go. Do you want me to walk you home after he wakes up?"

I glance into the room Kenny is sleeping in. "No, that's okay. I'm gonna make sure he gets home safe. We actually know each other..."

"Oh, okay... do you want me to wait with you?"

"If you'd like! It'll be boring until he wakes up, I want to sit with him until then."
