Book 2 Chapter 6

I wake up alone. Where did Kenny go?

I lazily get out of bed to investigate. It's Friday, so he doesn't have a class until later. Why would he get up so early?

I hear yelling from the kitchen.

"Karen! I told you, I can't do anything to change things. You need to face your feelings and I'm too close to this to help you. I'm sorry."

"I thought big brothers were supposed to have their little sisters' backs!"

"And I do! But you are asking too much of me. I love you but I can do that to M-"

I jump in, "Hey! You two, calm down!"

They both look at me, surprised. 

Kenny walks over to me and kisses my cheek. "Good morning, love. Did we wake you?"

"No, but why were you two arguing? I've only ever seen you argue once, and that was over a cereal box toy."

Kenny sighs, "Just a little disagreement. It's nothing, really."

Karen slams her cup down on the counter. "Nothing? Really? Is that what my feelings mean to you?!"

"No, What?"

She storms off, leaving me and Kenny alone in the kitchen. I've never felt a quiet like this.

"Kenny..."

He looks at me as if he were a guilty dog. "Yes?"

"What was that about?"

"Nothing! I just didn't want to do her a favor, that's all. I'm stressed out enough with school and work so I need some time to myself."

"Are you sure that's all?"

"... Yes."

"Promise?"

"I... Promise."

"Okay. Thank you. Do you want breakfast?"

"Please. I'm starving."

After eating breakfast with Kenny, I head out for school. I made sure to leave a serving in the fridge for when Karen decides to come out.

I have sociology today. I need to talk to Craig about his little sister, but how do I bring that up? We hardly ever talk and it would be weird to just go up and ask about his sister. I need to befriend him first.

I see him at a table with a blonde boy. That must be Tweek.

"Hey, guys! You remember me?"

Craig turns around. "Yeah. What's up?"

I sit next to him. "Weeeellll... I was just wondering what you guys were up to."

"We are sitting at a table."

"I can see that! I mean, like, uhm..."

I look into his eyes, his stare is scary... 

Tweek snaps his fingers in front of my face. "He's taken."

I put my hands up quickly. "I- I didn't mean that- I mean, I am too! I wasn't trying to like- no, wait, I..."

Tweek smiles. "Chill, I was just joking. Of course, he is taken, but we both know you're with Kenny. Did you need something?"

"Oh, I was just wondering if you guys are free after school? I have been looking to make some friends here and I think you're both cool..."

They trade glances. 

Tweek nods, "I guess. We were going to hang out at Craig's place after school..."

Perfect! If I can go to his house I can meet with Tricia!

"Yes! That would be lovely."

"Cool."

I sit there for a few more moments before Craig speaks.

"You can go now."

"Right!" I hurry away from the table.

My heart is pounding. That shouldn't have been as scary as it was.
