I shake my head. "Bradley, I'm with Kenny now. And I'm happy."

"Remember how he treated you at the Christmas party?" Bradley looks at me desperately.

"Remember how you treated me?"

"...right... look, we don't have to get back together or anything, I'd just like to at least be friends... and, if it's a problem, Kenny doesn't have to know."

My front door shuts. I didn't even hear it open.

"What don't I need to know?"

I look over to see Kenny with his arms folded, standing just past my front door.

"Kenny!" I'm so glad he came.

"Bradley why are you in my girlfriend's apartment?" He steps fully into the room.

"I was just apologizing for everything."

"Bradley, did you happen to see her Instagram story about the money?" Kenny stares him down.

"What? No! I didn't even know you guys won the lottery."

"I never said we won the lottery."

"Oh uh. Marjorine mentioned it earlier."

I stand up and open my front door. "I didn't. Please leave. You've said your piece."

He looks between me and Kenny before accepting his defeat and leaving my apartment.

Kenny looks at me with a serious expression. "We can't keep living here if all these people think we won the lottery."

"Why not?"

"People have been killed for shit like this! It's dangerous."

"Then what do we do?"

"We move. We both have enough saved up. We can take Karen with us-"

"She's still in high school. You can't transfer her mid year... especially senior year."

"Damn it..."

I meet with my parents the next day at the same coffee shop. They look hopeful when they see me. I feel kind of bad that I'm rejecting their request...

"Hey mom, hey dad..." I sit cautiously at the table.

"So?" My dad prompts. "What's your answer?"

"I'm sorry, I really am, but... it's too risky. I just can't do it."

"This is more money than you will make your entire life Butters! You can't turn something like this away!"

My body grows cold when he says that name. "I won't."

"Why are you so god damn ungrateful! After everything we did for you! We raised you and let you change all these things about yourself against our better judgement!"

"You want me to be grateful?!" I clench my fist. "Like hell I would ever be grateful to a scumbag like you! You made my entire life a living hell just because you wanted me to follow YOUR rules! I'm done! I'm done with you and I'm done with this fucking town!"

I storm out of the coffee shop without letting either of my parents respond.

-

Karen stands in the doorway of her oldest brothers apartment looking out at me and Kenny.

Kenny gives her a tight hug. "Be safe, okay? We will just be a couple hours away if you ever want to visit."

Karen giggles. "You're so emotional, it's only for a short while. Just until everything clears up, right?"

Kenny nods.

Karen turns her attention to me. "Marjorine... take care of my stupid brother."

I smile. "I will... and I'll miss you..."

"We can call every single day!"

I attack her with a hug, pushing Kenny to the side. "Every day."

Kenny and I take our suitcases and pack them into his truck. We set up an apartment in Denver for the time being.

It's sad to leave my home town like this and start from scratch, but I know if I have Kenny with me I will be just fine.
