Bunny - Kenjorine - Transition

Book 2 chapter 1

It's been a year since me and Kenny got together. I live with him now and we both go to the community college in town. He studies sciences and I got into social psychology. He still works part-time, and my mom still gives me money.

Things have been pretty tame for a while. I was able to settle into my classes pretty easily and I even made a few accepting friends. Karen is still my best friend though.

I've been going to the doctor to get estrogen for my transition, I've been on it for a month now.

I'm very happy. For the first time in forever, my life is drama free and I'm living how I want to.

At least, it was.

I split my time between Karen and Kenny, and it usually goes just fine but recently they've been fighting more. Karen seems to be getting more rebellious which is stressing Kenny out.

I get home from college an hour earlier than Kenny does. This gives me time with Karen.

"Oh, hey Marjorine. Welcome home."

"Thanks... hey, are you okay? You've been acting down for the past few days." I sit next to her on the couch.

"My girlfriend broke up with me..."

"Oh no... I'm so sorry..."

"It's fine... I'm getting over it. I didn't truly love her anyway, she was more of a distraction."

"A distraction?"

"There's another girl at school I like, but she's straight so I was trying to get over her by forcing myself to like someone else."

"Then I guess it's good you ended things before someone got hurt."

"But now I'm just back in my depression... I still like her but I'm positive she's straight..."

"Have you asked her?"

"...no..."

"Then how can you be sure?"

"I just know."

"Don't give up so easily. I can try to help if you want..."

"I'll think about it... I could really use a friend right now though... are you busy this weekend?"

"I have a date with Kenny but... we can work around it. It's not until late on Saturday so we can hang out in the morning."

"Okay..."

"I'm gonna get started on dinner. Do you want to help?"

Her eyes light up. "Please! Baked Mac and cheese, right?"

I laugh. "Yep."

She always gets so excited about dinner time. She told me she wants to go to culinary school after she graduates so I've been teaching her everything I know.

"Oh, Marjorine? Can you drop me off at school tomorrow?"

"Why not Kenny? He's a much better driver than I am."

"I just don't want him to."

"Are you mad at him?"

"..."

"Karen?"

"He's been stealing my best friend away..."

"Oh... Karen..."
