I take the envelope and open it. It has a card and a PIN number. I tuck it into my wallet and put my wallet in my pocket, safe and sound.
I go downstairs for one last meal in the house, it's pancakes. Mom makes the best pancakes. I eat them happily.
When I get back up to my room I see a book on top of the boxes I packed. It's a cookbook. My mom put all her recipes in here...
I take the book and put it in a box. I'll miss mom...
I check the time. It's 10 am. Two more hours until Kenny gets here.
I need to find out where dad put my phone. Mom might be able to help me, but I'll ask right before I leave. Dad doesn't know I'm leaving yet, and I'd like to keep it that way for as long as possible.
I pace around and wait for what feels like forever. I've got my shoes on and my boxes are next to the door. I'm so restless.
Finally I hear the doorbell. I run downstairs just in time to see my dad answer the door and see Kenny's face.
Kenny smirks at him, "Hello, sir. I'm here to pick up your daughter."
He looks so smug. I love him.
"I don't have a daughter. Leave."
I run to the door, "Sorry dad, he's gonna leave soon, he just needs to help me get my things."
"What?"
"I'm moving out, dad. Oh, and I'd appreciate it if you would give me my phone back."
I pull Kenny in and we go upstairs. He grabs both of my boxes and I grab my backpack.
"Is this everything, Mar?"
"Should be."
"Alright let's get out of here, Karen is waiting outside with the car."
We go downstairs and my dad holds my phone out. Is he really going to give it to me? That easily? I'm a bit skeptical.
He looks down at me, the same way he has my entire life. "If you take this and leave, you can't come back."
"I know."
"And you won't be my son anymore."
I look up at him and smile. "I never was."
I lean over and smile at mom. She waves at me.
Then I reach out to take the phone. My final belonging in this hell. It's finally over.
I grab hold of the phone and pull, but he doesn't let go. I grip harder. He yanks the phone back, sending me toward him. The last think I see is his balled up fist as it hits my face, then the world spinning as I fall to the ground.
