When our house is done I look up and notice the party has gotten a lot more populated. People are talking and playing games. Most people are drinking and I can tell a lot of them are already drunk.

Kenny is drinking too.

The noise is so loud, it doesn't help that I'm right next to a huge speaker.

"Hey, Bradley? Do you mind if I just step into the hallway real quick? It's overwhelming in here."

He nods. "I was thinking the same thing. I'll come with."

We step out into the hall and find a little corner to sit in. We've already been at the party for an hour. Time really flies.

"I'll bet anything that we are gonna win this contest." Bradley says as he looks at his shoelaces.

"Of for sure. Ours was adorable."

"Yeah... cute... just like you said."

"I did say that didn't I? You were being pretty cute about the house. No one makes up little stories for their gingerbread men and their house structures."

"You're cute too."

"Pardon?"

"I think you're cute."

"Oh? Well, thank you!"

"Marj... I like you. You know that, right?"

"Yeah." I look at him. "I do."

"Did you know I liked you when you agreed to come to the party with me?"

"I did."

"Then... does that mean..." he leans towards me slightly.

I guess it's time to reject him.

But why? Why am I rejecting him?

I haven't even given him a chance.

And it's not like I can be with Kenny.

Maybe this is exactly the opportunity I need.

He leans closer and I take the opportunity to speed things up.

I press my lips into his. They're surprisingly soft.

"Well, that was fast. Pretty easy to move on, huh?"

I flinch and look up. Kenny is standing at the end of the hall.

"Kenny?! How long have you been there?"

"Long enough to see you're not as hung up on this as I am." He sways towards the wall.

He's drunk.

"Kenny..."

"Shhh... Marjorine, I don't want to hear it."

That's the first time he's called me by my name instead of Mar in over a year.

"Are you okay? Don't drink too much you'll-"

"Don't be nice to me." He snaps.

"What?"

"Fuck you."

I'm stunned. I try to speak but I can't. Did he seriously just say that to me?

He turns away and walks back into the party. His hair a mess and his shirt untucked. He is more wasted than I could've thought.

He drinks when he's feeling sad.

He's... really sad...

Is it because of me?
