I spend all morning preparing for the hang out with Karen. All we are doing is watching a show... That's all. However, I can't stop obsessing about how I look.

I put on an outfit I used to wear in school; my blue sweater, green dress, and two green scrunchies for my pigtails. I haven't worn this look with my natural hair... I used to wear pigtails a lot.

I finish up by putting on tights and just enough makeup to make it look like I'm not wearing any. Maybe a bit more lip-gloss and mascara than usual...

When I get to Karen's house, she opens the door for me and welcomes me in.

"Marjorine! Come in!" She leads me to the living room. Her house looks nicer, she told me that Kevin was helping get things in better shape now that he had a stable job. Kenny has also been working on making everything more livable.

We sit on the couch and start to watch DVD episodes of Hello Kitty and Friends. It has become a comfort show for me. She also set up a bunch of snacks that I really like. It really is making me feel better.

A few hours pass as Karen and I talk about life, school, and family while the show plays.

Karen looks at her phone. "It's getting late..."

"Oh... right. I lost track of time. I've been having fun." I start collecting my things.

"Wait... Neither of us have school tomorrow if you wanted to sleepover... My room is a lot nicer now, it should be comfortable."

I probably shouldn't stay the night, I dont want to make Kenny uncomfortable but... "Okay. I dont think I want to be alone tonight so I'll take you up on that offer."

She smiles. "Perfect! I'll set up a sleeping bag for you in my room. Dont worry, I have a big one so it wont be uncomfortable."

As she runs to her room I sit and think for a bit. Karen is a really good influence for me, spending time with her makes everything better. I'm so glad she is doing better.

I should go to the bathroom and take off my makeup before we go to sleep.

I go down the familiar hallway of the house I briefly lived in. It feels so natural, yet so surreal. On the way to the bathroom, I pass Kenny's room. His door is open a crack. A bad habit of his was not closing doors fully.

I peek in through the crack as I pass. He is sitting at his desk working on some papers. Is this what he has been doing all night? He didn't come out even once today. He must be busy.

As I turn to continue to the bathroom, I slam my pinkie toe into the corner in the hallway.

"Ah!" I yelp from the pain. I quickly cover my mouth after making the noise, but it was too late. He heard me.
