A tall girl in gothic makeup comes out of Karen's room.

"Are these the siblings you told me about, kare-bear?"

"This is my brother Kenny and his girlfriend Marjorine."

The nickname she used for Karen surprised me. She looks emo but she's acting cutesy.

"Hello Kenny and Marjorine. I'm Kate."

"What's with the makeup?" Kenny asks in a slightly annoyed tone.

I elbow him and he tries again.

"Not that it's bad, I was just wondering what it's all about."

She smiles at us, "It's just my groups thing. We dress in dark clothes because it's in right now. It's not a cult or anything like that, just having fun."

"Oh, okay."

Kenny goes to his room.

"Sorry about him, Kate. I think he's a bit protective of Karen."

"It's all good. I'm used to people being a bit hesitant to trust me at first."

"Well, as long as Karen trusts you, I do too."

"I'm glad. It's good to meet you. Karen has told me a ton about you."

"How long have you two known each other?"

"Hmm, a couple years? We never talked much until last month when we got partnered together on a project."

I go over to Karen and put my hands over her ears. "Do you promise you like her?"

She laughs, "I wouldn't have said yes to prom if I didn't."

"Good."

I let go of Karen, "I'm gonna go rest with Kenny. Have fun you two."

I wave and go to Kenny's room. He's laying on his back staring at the ceiling.

"Kenny... why are you so down?"

"I just feel like Karen isn't ready to start dating yet... she's too innocent."

"You think she's innocent? Even after all the things she's seen us do?"

"Mar, she's my baby sister... I was fine with it until I saw she was a vamp kid. Those guys are the worst."

I raise an eyebrow at him, "You think people don't judge our relationship based on how I look and act?"

"That's different."

"Not really. Judging someone based on their looks is the same no matter what the circumstances are. Lighten up. Karen is happy, did you see her blushing? She was looking at Kate the same way you look at me."

He sighs. "I guess you're right... okay. I'll try to relax a bit. For Karen."

"You really are an amazing brother. If I had siblings I would hope they could be as good as you. Seriously."

"Are you trying to say you wish we were siblings?"

"No!"

"Good. Cause I would be really upset if I wasn't able to date you."

"You're a dork."

"And you're my smart princess. Come to bed, I'm cold."

I roll my eyes and snuggle into bed with him. He smells good, I think he put on cologne today.
