It's been two weeks since I moved in with Kenny. It's really lovely to live with him. He works now, so I have to wait for him to get home on weekdays. I make dinner every night with my mom's cookbook.

I've been teaching Karen to cook recently. She's really devoted to getting better, and she says she wants to contribute.

Kenny makes money for basic needs and fun activities for the three of us and I take care of food with the 200 dollars I get monthly with my mom's card.

Kenny drops me off at his house after school before driving to work.

He kisses me before I get out, "I'll be home a bit late tonight, so you guys can eat without me. Just save some food and I'll eat when I get back."

"Do you know when you'll be back?"

"Maybe around 8 or 9."

"That is pretty late. I'll see you later, love you."

"Love you."

He drives away and I get inside with Karen.

"Karen? What do you want for dinner? It's just us tonight."

"Pasta."

"Okay, I'll get started on that around 5 of you feel like helping."

"Okay."

-

When Karen comes out to help with dinner she is preoccupied with her phone, texting someone.

"Everything okay, Mar?"

"Yeah..."

She continues to stare at her phone.

"Okay..."

She finally puts it down, "Do you wanna hang out with me after school tomorrow?"

"Sure. Where do you want to go?"

"How about we just stay at school? We can just hang out in the hallway."

"The hallway? Why?"

"Just feel like hanging out..."

"Weird."

"Yeah, please just stay at school with me?"

I smile at her, "I will."

"Thank you!"

I hope everything is okay... I'm worried about her not wanting to leave the school, it's out of character for her.

She helps me make spaghetti and sauce and we eat while talking about the drama we observed at school. We both do our best to stay out of drama but that doesn't mean we can't gossip about it together.

I wait up for Kenny to get home, I hear his car pull up around 9 pm and get up to open the door but Karen grabs me.

"Come help me fix up my room!" She drags me away before I can greet Kenny.

Her room looks perfectly clean. "Karen, it's clean, why did you need help?"

"Oh, I guess it is... Okay... You can go then..."

"Are you sure you're doing okay?"

"Don't worry about me, I'm fine."

"Okay..."

When I get out of her room Kenny has already made it to our room.

"How was work, Kenny?"

"Tiring... I think I'm gonna pass out."

"Do you need a massage or anything?"

"Nah."

"Okay. By the way, Karen and I are staying after school tomorrow."

"Okay."

He didn't ask why. Maybe he's too tired.

-

Karen meets me at my locker after school. "Marjorine!"

"Hi, Karen. What are we doing?"

"I think we should just walk..."

"Why? We could find a room to hang out in or som-"

"No!"

"What?"

"I mean... I just want to walk..."

I'm becoming increasingly worried.
