"Alright, Mar. 48 hours, starting now. I'm at your call. I'll be right next to you the whole time. If I need to go somewhere I'll let you know. Please tell me if you need anything. Start by getting some sleep."

"Kenny..."

"Yes?"

"I need to pee."

"Oh, okay. Let me get you to the bathroom."

We walk to his restroom and he positions me in front of the toilet.

"I'll step out now so you can have some privacy."

"Wait."

"What is it?"

"I can't see."

"Oh, right... Uh... Are you okay with me doing this..?"

"Yes."

I should feel embarrassed right now, but all I feel is an intense need to pee.

I feel him unzip my pants. He takes a deep breath before positioning me.

"...You can go now..."

Once we are all finished he washes his hands and leads me back to the bed.

"Thanks."

"...yeah..."

"What's wrong?"

"That was really..."

"Embarasing?"

"No... It was... It was just not something I ever thought I would do."

"You may have to do it again."

"I know, and I will be fine. It just takes some getting used to."

"I guess I need to learn how to do that on my own if I'm living like this from now on..."

"Yeah. We can figure that out after 48 hours. Are you ready to sleep?"

"I am. Is the pillow still there?"

"Yeah. You can just lay back, I'll get the blanket for you."

He tucks me in and kisses my forehead. "Goodnight, Mar."

"Can you hold my hand?"

"Yeah."

He takes my hand and puts it between both of his. It's comforting knowing he's there... Comfort... Maybe the medicine is already working.

-

I don't know how long it's been. I open my eyes to the darkness again. I still feel Kenny's hand.

"Kenny?"

"..."

I think he might be asleep.

I shift onto my side and hug his hand to my chest. Then I fall asleep again. There's not much else to do.

-

I hear an alarm go off.

"Kenny? Is that your alarm?"

"Yeah. It marks 48 hours."

"Already? Have I been sleeping that long?"

"Yeah."

He sounds tired...

"Are you doing okay, Mar?"

"I am..."

"Good."

I reach out and hug him, he is warm...

Suddenly a switch flips in my brain. All my emotion floods back into my mind.

"Oh god... I'm gonna be blind... Kenny!"

"I'm here, I'm right here." He hugs me back.

"No... Kenny I... I need to see..."

"I know... I know Mar..."

"Kenny..." I start to cry.

"I know...."

"My eyes..."

"I know..." He gently pets my back. I think he is crying too...

I close my eyes tightly, then I open them as wide as I can. Nothing. I can't see anything. Not even light. I am in total and complete darkness.

"Kenny... I think it got worse... I can't see at all..."

"Sweetie, the lights are off, you probably just can't see bright light because there isn't any. I'll turn them on, it might hurt your head so close your eyes for a second."

"Okay."

He leaves me on the bed and flips the light switch.
