Kenny looks in my direction but not at me. "Yeah, let's just stay inside."

As soon as he steps away from the window everything goes black. Pitch black. Did I lose my vision again? The doctor said there was a slight risk of my sight going away again but I didn't think it would actually happen!

I put my hands out. "No... no, no, oh god..."

"Mar?" Kenny calls to me.

"M-my eyes! My eyes I can't-" I start breathing faster and faster. "I can't see! I can't see anything- again! It's back, my-"

Kenny grabs my arms and pulls me towards him. "Hey, I'm right here. You're okay. The power just went out it's not your eyes."

I lean against his chest and catch my breath. "Thank goodness... I was so scared-"

"I have my flashlight from my keychain, you take that and I'll just use my lighter." He shuffles around and pulls his keys out. Once he detaches it, he hands it to me. "There, nothing to be afraid of, just a power out, okay?"

I nod even though I know he can't see me. "Right, okay..."

The flashlight doesn't give off much light but anything is better than the deep darkness that was around us.

The click of his lighter illuminates his face. "Okay, if the power is gonna be out we should probably go upstairs. Heat rises right? We can stay warm up there."

"Right! The art classroom on the top floor is always super warm."

He nods. "Good idea, plus there's candles in there."

"Is it okay for us to use those?"

"We're trapped in the school, I'm sure they won't mind."

I follow Kenny up the dark steps to the top floor. The first door on the right is the art room, luckily it's unlocked.

"Okay, uhm... if you wanna just find a place to sit I'll find the candle supplies."

I look around the room and find a spot with some beanbags for us to sit in. "Hey, is just over here okay?"

He glances over his shoulder. "Yeah, looks good."

I settle down with my knees together. I'm starting to get a bit cold, I hope the candles are warm...

Kenny comes back with the candles and starts to light them. I sit quietly and watch the flames light his face. I can see quick flashes of his blue eyes.

My phone rings, it's Bradley.

"Marj? Hello?" He asks, concerned.

"Hey."

"Are you doing okay? I heard the power went out around your apartment."

"Oh, I'm still at school..."

"WHAT?"
