"Hey, Mar." Kenny answers quickly.

"Hello~ How are you?"

"Good. We had some potatoes and gravy from the store for dinner. They weren't very good but they were pretty filling. We all miss your cooking."

"I'll have to come by soon to cook for you guys again."

"Definitely. Speaking of which, are you free this weekend?"

"About that, you remember the new kid I was sitting with at lunch? He offered to let me go to his house so I could learn to sew. I've always-"

"I don't like it."

"Sorry?"

"I don't want you to go to his house, Mar. Boys can't be trusted around you."

"What? They might make moves on me like you did?"

"Well, that's different, we are dating."

"Exactly. He is just a friend who wants to hang out. Nothing will happen."

"You never know, boys are ruthless. It doesn't matter if you just met him. He probably only wants to hang out to get with you."

"Oh yeah? Do you only hang out with girls to get with them?"

"You know I'm not like that."

"And he probably isn't either. It hurts that you won't trust me to hang out with another person."

"I do trust you! I just don't trust him."

"I can defend myself. And this isn't your decision to make. I'm going to meet with him this weekend. I just figured I should let you know."

"Mar. I'm serious. I don't want you to go."

"You don't have control over my life."

"Fine. I guess I'll go hang out with Nicole this weekend. Since we have to work on the project we might as well."

"Kenny you know how I feel about her."

"Oh do I? Well too bad couples don't get a say in who their partner should meet."

He hangs up.

That went horrible.

Is he really gonna meet up with Nicole? After I told him how much it worries me? It's not the same as me meeting Dave. Kenny used to like Nicole. What if he still has lingering feelings? She's way prettier and smarter than me... She could totally seduce him if she wanted.

Whatever. It was his choice to be problematic. I'll just get back at him by hanging out with Dave more. If he is gonna ignore my requests then I'll just ignore his even more.

The next day at school I sit with Dave again.

"Oh, hey. I didn't think you would want to sit with us again. Is your boyfriend okay with it?"

"It doesn't matter what he thinks. Besides, I'm not talking to him right now."

"Trouble in paradise?"

"Yeah."

"Well, you're welcome here anytime."

"Thanks, Dave."

"No problem... also... does your boyfriend usually do that..?"

I turn to see what he's looking at.

Kenny is at the popular girls table, talking to Nicole.
