Kenny looks down at his mixture. "We were just finishing mixing..."

I know that tone, he definitely messed something up along the way. He was always hopeless in the kitchen.

I stand next to him and look down into the bright yellow clumpy mixture in his bowl.

"Pff-" I struggle to hold in a laugh.

"I was trying my best! The instructions were unclear!" He throws his hands up in frustration.

I look at the instructions on the side of the box mix. "Kenny... How many eggs did you add?"

"Five, just like it said."

"Oh..."

"What?"

"Kenny, egg WHITES. Not whole eggs..."

His face flushes bright red. "Oh."

"How are you a science major..."

"This is a type of science I simply cannot master."

I giggle a bit and pick up the box mix again. "We probably have to make a new batch. Here, take 5 eggs and separate the yolks from the whites. Do you know how to do that?"

"Of course I do... But just incase you should probably show me."

"Uh huh..." I grab one of the eggs and an empty bowl. "Crack it like this... then catch the yolk in the other half of the shell. We can put the yolks in your original batter, we can make some overly sugary pasta or something out of it. It'll probably be gross but it wont go to waste."

"Okay... So crack like this and..."

I reach from behind him and tilt the egg. "The yolk is going to fall in if you hold it like that..."

"R-right..."

He finishes with the eggs as I mix all the other ingredients together.

"Kenny, did you get homework over the break?"

"No..."

"But you were doing so much work in your room last night."

"So you were looking?"

"Oh-"

"It's okay. I don't mind. I was doing paperwork for the internship I'm doing up at the genetics lab."

"Oh! Congrats! You wanted that internship for ages!"

He smiles. "Yeah. I really did."

"I'm proud of you, Kenny."

He stops stirring his mixture. "... thank you..."

He won't look at me...

I bend down to look at his face. "Kenny?"

"Don't look at me right now..."

Woah... his face is red... he's blushing...

"Kenny? Are you okay?"

"I'm back!" Karen opens the door and walks into the kitchen with a bag of chocolate chips.

"Hey, how was your trip?" I do my best to draw attention away from Kenny so he can cool off.

"Good. Is the batter ready?"

"Yeah. But we had to redo it."

Karen laughs. "I thought I told you not to mess it up, Kenny." She pauses. "Kenny?"

Kenny puts down his bowl. "I'm going to my room. You got this covered."

Karen smirks once Kenny is back in his room. "He was totally blushing. What happened while I was gone?"

"Nothing..."
