Gordon is another prototype by Sir Nigel Gresley. He was the LNER's prototype for the A1. He was sold the NWR in 1922. He became the NWR's dedicated express engine. He resembled how the A1s looked before their rebuild. The only difference is that his 3rd cylinder was smaller than the normal A1s.When all the A1s went back to Doncaster to receive the A3 upgrades, Gordon was among them and reunited with some of his little siblings. One interesting thing about Gordon is that he is slightly smaller than the regular A3's. This is why Flying Scotsman, or Scottie, calls Gordon little brother, despite Gordon being older. Unlike in the books, Gordon received a superheater and a corridor tendering this universe but kept his original dome like his younger sister Ladas. He ran the Wild'Nor'Wester from Tidmouth to Barrow until 1948. Then he started running an occasional extended service to Manchester. He ran this until1968, when steam was retired and banned on British Railways. He went back to terminating at Barrow until Privatization, when Sir Stephen Topham Hatt acquired the rights to run to Manchester again. He ran this until 2011 when he retired from the Wild'Nor'Wester and put on stopping services to Barrow. Sometimes on special occasions, Gordon will run through to Manchester. Since Gordon is one of the last Gresley Pacifics in existence, railfans usually come out in droves whenever he pulls these.
