Atlas is another one of the former MSR engines. He was built in France in 1919 and rebuilt to fit the gauge on Sodor in 1921. He worked at the mine near Cas-Ny-Hawin, until 1939, when it was taken over by the Ministry of Defense. By 1945, the mines were almost completely barren. The situation was made worse when Stanley broke down and the mines flooded in 1946. Since this was the only thing keeping the MSR afloat, it closed a year later. Atlas was sold to a little mining company near Harwick. He worked there until the mine at Cregwir closed in 1950. Since the company didn't want to scrap Atlas, they opted to leave him in a shed until they could find a different home for him. They would have sent him to the SKR, but after Freddie disappeared, they simply couldn't afford to run another engine. Soon Atlas was forgotten about and sat in that shed for about 2 months until he was bought by a rail enthusiast from The Netherlands and was there in about a year. He stayed over there for 40 years, until his owner died. The owner had a daughter, who thought it best to send Atlas back to Britain. Since Atlas' previous owners were all out of business, she just sent him to be stored at Barrow. Once he got back to Britain, Atlas was put on a goods train and pulled to Barrow. He wasn't there for very long when Sir Stephen got word from Felix that the little engine was there. Sir Stephen quickly told Mr. Sam, who quickly bought Atlas. Just like Millie, he was pulled to Crovan's Gate by Felix. He was sent into the workshop to be restored, but his previous owners had kept him in decent working condition for years. In the end all he needed was a general overhaul and a new coat of paint. During those few months he made friends with Millie and taught her English whenever he could. Once his overhaul was complete, he was sent to run trains to the new spelunking resort near Skarloey. Soon, Millie took over this run, and Atlas helped with a newly opened coal mine near Lakeside. He has been there ever since.
