Thomas is an interesting case. Most people believe that he is an LB&SCR Railway E2 or a modified version of this engine. However, this basis is too long for the sort of work that he does. I believe that a better basis for Thomas is a modified version of the Furness Railway Class 19 with extended side tanks. It is also unknown how Thomas officially came to Sodor. Unlike the books, Thomas does not have a dipped running board in this universe. The events of Thomas Comes to Breakfast still happen, but Thomas retains the flat running board from when he was built. He was one of two engines bought from the Furness Railway during the early days of the NWR. Thomas arrived in 1924 and was the station pilot for Vicarstown until 1925. After rescuing James after he crashed, Thomas was transferred to the Ffarquhar Branch Line where he still works to present day. Before he was transferred, he was fitted with a push-pull system at Crovan's Gate. He was also given two push-pull coaches named Annie and Clarabel to run the line. On top of that his bunker was enlarged so he could make longer trips. He was later joined by Toby, Percy, Daisy and Flora respectively. He has had many incidents on his branch line, one of the more prominent incidents is the previously mentioned events of Thomas Comes to Breakfast. Thomas also went to the National Railway Museum in 1990. He came back the next year. Thomas had many adventures before and after this, all of which are detailed in the books about him. Some of the incidents detailed in the television series are canon in this universe. Thomas used to have a brother, but he doesn't like to talk about him.
