Like the steam locomotives, the NWR has a diverse roster of diesel locomotives. Unlike the steam locomotives, there are only twelve diesels. Their numbers had to be reshuffled in the 1990s. Most were built by British Railways, though some were built by other companies. Most of the diesels are painted in some variation of green, except three. There is not too much on some of them since they have very few incidents. Most of them are main or branch line diesels, with only 3 shunters.
