Arthur was built at Crewe in 1949. He is an Ivatt 2MT tank engine, an LMS design built by BR. He worked on BR until 1967 when he was withdrawn and set to be scrapped. He was stored at Crewe for a year, until, like Oliver, Arthur ran away. He actually ran away with two other engines, Rosiline and Murdoch, unlike Oliver. However, the trio was on the run for less time than Oliver was. They finally made it to Sodor in 1969. Fortunately, Sir Charles needed a few engines, so he gave them a chance before he bought them. Arthur was trialed at Tidmouth, while the others were sent elsewhere. Arthur was painted with what can be described as "Midnight Blue". In the TVS, Arthur was maroon with LMS lining and lettering. Arthur was then transferred to the Norramby Branch and is still there today. Of all of the engines on this list, Arthur has the least in terms of accidents. He did ruin a shipment of produce on his first day, but that is the only major event that has happened to him so far. Emily and Arthur get along very well on their branch line. Arthur handles the goods traffic on the Norramby branch. He also gives any advice he can to Emily since she's so young.
