Luke is one of the smallest engines in the SKR fleet. He was built in a small workshop outside Dublin in 1985. The owner of the shop had some ties to Sodor, so when he had to sell Luke in 1999, he contacted Mr. Sam. Since he needed another engine to help run the line up to Rumblin' Bridge, he bought Luke. Instead of coming to one of the big ports on Sodor, they sent him to the wharf at Balladwail to be unloaded. This way, the SKR could directly transfer Luke to their rails. Since he had been inspected earlier this meant he could start work almost immediately. At first he avoided the others, but once he started talking to Millie he opened up more. They seemed to form a very close bond. They cross paths often because Luke pulls tours around the spelunking resort inside the old slate quarry down near Skarloey Station. One of his favorite things to do is to dart in and out of some of the tunnels in the area.
