All of the Culdee Fell engines are engines from Switzerland specially designed to climb mountains. They all have sloped boilers, stovepipe chimneys, their water tanks are split in half, they have automatic brakes, and their cylinders are back-to-front. When the railway first opened there were 5 engines. This was the case until the No. 1 engine derailed and tumbled down the mountain. After that he vanished from the shed. The other 4 engines worked the line for a while. When they started to show their age, the manager bought 3 new engines and sent the older engines to be repaired. All of them are still running to this day.
