Murdoch started life on BR in 1958. He was assigned to pull heavy goods trains and the occasional passenger train. He did this until he was withdrawn in 1968. Shockingly Murdoch has the shortest working life on BR out of any of the ex-BR engines on Sodor. He was stored at Crewe where he met Arthur and Rosie. All three engine crews were able to cobble together enough money to buy all three engines from BR before they were scrapped. In the real world, the real 92213 was withdrawn and scrapped. In this universe, he came to Sodor. They all made the journey to Sodor in December of 1968 and arrived in early 1969. Murdoch was put to work on the main line hauling heavy goods trains. Then he started helping Henry with the Flying Kipper in the late 1980s. A new fish train picks up smaller trains of fish from the junctions at Tidmouth, Wellsworth, Crovan's Gate and Vicarstown. This train is then taken to Manchester every other day, as well as the Flying Kipper. This became too much for Henry, so she asked Sir Stephen to let Murdoch take the Kipper, while she takes the branch line train called the Icebox. Henry and Murdoch get along very well since they are so similar. They both enjoy nature, and both prefer to have peace and quiet. He also gets along well with an engine named John. Since he is a goods engine, he has always been painted black. Sir Charles offered to have him painted green, but he refused. Instead, he chose a blue similar to Arthur. In the TVS, Murdoch is painted orange with green stripes. I have never liked this livery, so I changed it to fit the others better.
