Background

The Arlesdale Railway is the only minimum gauge railway on Sodor. It starts at Arlesburgh West, the terminus for the Little Western, and ends at Arlesdale. The railway repurposed the disused track bed of the old MSR. They only went as far as Arlesdale, however. There was only enough money to restore the west section for service. This was a project put together by Sir Stephen, Mr. Sam and Mr. Richards. Like the SKR, the AR is incredibly dependent on tourism, but still has a few goods contracts. The 3 most prominent contracts are the contracts for wool, granite and ballast. The ballast is collected from the MSR's waste heaps and transferred into standard gauge trucks at Arlesburgh West. The granite is mined from the old quarries too.
