Duncan was bought from a warehouse in Scotland. He was bought as a spare engine after Peter Sam's accident. One interesting fact is that almost all of the SKR's engines were Welsh until Duncan. Currently he is the only Scottish engine on the railway. Since Duncan had a short wheel base, he tended to ride rough. His crew and the other engines call it rock and roll. Duncan likes to have something to complain about. There are 3 major incidents involving Duncan. The 1st is when he got stuck at the end of Rheneas Tunnel. The 2nd is when he derailed just outside of Crovan's Gate. The 3rd is when he deliberately stopped on a viaduct. He was scolded for all of these incidents, but only learned sense after Skarloey told him about Rheneas. He also helped some boy scouts stay hydrated when they were helping to tidy up the railway. After this, Duncan didn't have too many other incidents. The only one of note is something that happened when the old slate quarry was cleared out. Duncan's crew decided to spook Duncan after he made fun of Peter Sam. Although it went well, Duncan claims to have seen the outline of an engine. Maybe it was just his imagination, or he actually saw something supernatural.
