Peter Sam is the 4th engine on the SKR. He also used to be the 4th engine in the MSR and used to be called Stuart. When it closed, he along with Falcon and another engine were sold to the Aluminium Works. They worked there until 1951, when Stuart and Falcon were sold to the SKR. Stuart was renamed Peter Sam, after the Thin Controller at the time. The most famous accident Peter Sam has been involved in is an accident at one of the old slate mine. This is where a line of loaded slate trucks careened down the incline and crashed into Peter Sam. This caused Peter Sam's funnel to crack. Rusty, the little maintenance diesel helped him, and he was put in the shed to rest for a few weeks. He started work again when Skarloey came back from the works. He also pulled the television train for Skarloey's 95th birthday. Then one cold, wintry day, his funnel was knocked off by a particularly hefty icicle. His driver found a drain pipe on the side of the line and wired it to his boiler. The engines made fun of him for weeks afterward. When Peter Sam's new funnel, he was confused at first. He thought it looked like someone squashed it. The owner explained that it was something called a Geisel ejector. Sir Handel and Duncan made fun of him for a while, until he started work. A Geisel ejector is a funnel with special pipes that makes puffing easier for engines. Peter Sam worked harder than ever with his special funnel. Peter Sam was confused when Duck told him that all engine Dukes were scrapped. He thought that Duke from the MSR had been scrapped. He was even more confused when Sir Handel Brown said that the duke was coming to open the Lakeside extension. Then he found out that the duke was just a man. Peter Sam worked without incident for many years. Then he ran into some branches and brambles in the 1990s. Then he went to help out on the Tallylyn Railway for a few years. He came back in 1995 after an engine shortage on the SKR. He also helped out with the restoration of an old coal mine, the construction of a branch line to a small town called Rumblin' Bridge, and converting the old, defunct Ministry of Defense base into a spelunking resort. With these new construction projects, the SKR doubled in length. He still does odd jobs around the line. Peter Sam was green when he was still called Stuart. Unlike the television series, Peter Sam is repainted red with blue lining. Peter Sam has also had an interesting encounter, or lack thereof, on the MSR. He was trying to find an old lamp that was supposed to grant wishes. Being the naïve little engine he was, he believed the tale and tried to find it. But no matter how hard he tried he couldn't find it. It was almost like he wasn't meant to.
