Bert is the final of the original trio. He is the oldest engine on the AR. He has also been rebuilt the most times out of any engine. He was rebuilt into a tender engine, then he gained a taller chimney and cab in the 70s. He is the quietest of the original 3 and usually sits back as Mike and Rex go at each other. Unlike Rex and Mike, Bert has had more than one memorable incident on the railway. The first one happened when Reverend Wilbert Awdry and Reverend Teddy Boston came to the railway. They accidentally sprayed Bert with muddy water, so he shook some leaves with his steam and soaked Reverend Boston. The second was when a coupling broke on his passenger train and Bert's driver used glue to put it back together. All of this happened before his rebuild. Shortly after that incident, Bert went for his rebuild despite it never being illustrated. He was back in time to see Jock be completed. After this, Bert was given the No. 3, which he humbly accepted.
