Bertram is the 10th engine on the SKR. He used to work on the MSR. He looks very similar to Duke, except Bertram was a tank engine, unlike Duke. He mainly worked around the numerous mines the railway serviced. That is until the Second World War. Many of the MSR's engines temporarily worked for the Ministry of Defense. They helped strip many of the mines bare. By 1945 many of the engines had either been sold or abandoned. In Bertram's case he was abandoned in the old gold mine near Ulfstead Road. Some men who used to work for the MSR took it upon themselves to maintain Bertram. It was this action that allowed Bertram to remain salvageable when he was found. He was found by hikers that took a wrong tun on the path to the old Ulfstead Road Station. He was loaded on to a flatbed and transported to the SKR. He was quickly repaired in their workshops. Since the former mine workers maintained him for so long, it didn't take much time. Bertram helped with some of the SKR's extension projects. Once those were finished, he went to work in the newly opened coal mines. Bertram is a kind engine, though sometimes he tends to ramble about a variety of things. He also told the Mr. Sam about another MSR engine named Atlas.
