Mavis is one of the engines that is owned by the Ffarquhar Quarry Company. She was first brought to Sodor in 1961. She was stubborn and full of her own ideas at first. She never listened to any of the advice she was given. She even used to call Toby an old fusspot. But after she got stuck on the old farm lane near Ffarquhar and Toby got stuck on a collapsing bridge, Mavis began listening to others. Mavis is a kindhearted engine, but she uses rather vulgar language when she's upset. I suspect Percy may have taught her a few of those swears. Mavis was the only engine owned by the quarry for the longest time. The quarry underwent a big expansion in the late 1960s. After this, Flora was assigned to help out in 1977. After this Flora and Mavis took turns when they took stone trains down to Ffarquhar. Mavis also had an incident with a lorry at the crossing with no gates. Then the quarry company bought an old engine in the 1990 named Alina. She was restored at Crovan's Gate and mainly stayed in the quarry. Together, they take turns shunting and taking trains to the station. Mavis is much more energetic than Alina. She usually takes the 1st train down to the station.
