Rheneas is the 2nd engine on the Skarloey Railway. His name means "Divided Waterfall" in Sudric. He came to the line a few months after Skarloey did. As mentioned before, they didn't get along well at all. When Skarloey was telling Rheneas to get a cab Rheneas said, and I quote, "No thank you. You look like a snail with that house on your back" (W. Awdry, Very Old Engines). This caused them to argue a lot. One day, Skarloey got stuck in a landslide and Rheneas had to go rescue him. He didn't want to do it at first, but Mr. Bobby, the man who built them, convinced him to help. After this, Rheneas was rebuilt with a cab. He also saved Skarloey from falling off of the old trestle bridge. When Skarloey refused to cross the bridge, Rheneas did his work as well as his own, while Skarloey shunted trucks in the yard. On his way back to Crovan's Gate, he ran out of water and stalled on the bridge. Skarloey came to save him. After this there was one other incident. The owner tried to buy a new engine to help with the work. He was larger than Skarloey and Rheneas. The engine's name was Freddie. He worked the line from the Slate Mine to Crovan's Gate. On his 3rd week on the line, Freddie was travelling up to the mine, then he disappeared. No one knows what happened that night. After that, Rheneas and Skarloey had to work harder to stay on top of their jobs. They did this alone for the longest time. When Skarloey became too worn out to work after the war, Rheneas handled all of the trains. He managed this for about a year before his valve gear jammed when he was pulling a passenger train. He got the train home despite his handicap. After this Rheneas was repaired and continued to work. He ran the line alone until Sir Handel and Peter Sam were brought to the line. Rheneas was sent to Whitehaven for a complete overhaul in 1951. He was away for 9 years and returned in 1960. He resumed service and has remained in service to this day. He was also there to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Skarloey Railway in 1965. After his breakdown in 1949, Rheneas hasn't had any other incidents. He is also 157 as of 2021.
