Just like the railway, the engine roster on the SKR has gotten bigger over the years. The first two engines struggled to work the line until 1951. Many engines of the SKR's fleet are engines that used to work on the MSR. There are also a handful of engines that were built on site. Unlike the adjacent NWR, the SKR mainly thrives on tourism. The engines used to take turns when pulling the passenger trains in the early days. However, as of 2022 there are more engines, so more trains are rotated more frequently.
