Hope used to be one of the engines owned by the Ministry of Defense in the 60s. She helped shunt the trucks around the quarry. She always admired the SKR engines, even if she never was able to interact with any of them. She was involved in a serious accident in the back of the quarry. This led to her losing sight in one of her eyes and being abandoned in the back of the quarry. When the Ministry closed the base and sold it back to the SKR, Hope was eventually found and restored. She helps with maintenance along the line like Rusty and Fred. Unlike the other 2 diesels, Hope was painted red like the steam engines. She had been painted black her whole working life, and Mr. Sam figured she needed a change. Now she's happier than ever shunting trains and inspecting the line and making sure it's in top condition. She still avoids the quarry, since it brings back a lot of painful memories. The engines understand and have tried their best to help her work through her issues.
